But first . . . Washi!

When was the first time you saw a roll of washi tape? Do you know what it is? Did you know it is only about 20 years old!

The Origins of Washi Tape:

The name "washi" translates to "Japanese paper". Handcrafted paper-making techniques were introduced to Japan from China via a Korean Buddhist monk in 610 AD.

Japanese artisans refined these methods, using long, durable fibers from local plants like the mulberry (kozo), bamboo, and gampi. This created paper renowned for its strength, matte texture, and resistance to tearing. The Accidental Invention of "Washi Tape" happened in 2006. Despite the ancient heritage of the paper, washi tape was created entirely by accident.

In 2006, the Japanese company Kamoi Kakoshi Co. a century-old manufacturer of industrial masking tape and insect traps—received an email from a group of female artists and crafters. The women were using Kamoi’s industrial masking tape for a bookbinding and craft project, and they sent the company a book filled with stunning artistic pages made entirely of the tape. Charmed by the women's creativity and ingenuity, Kamoi Kakoshi invited them to visit their factory and sought their input on creating a colorful, decorative new masking tape specifically for arts and crafts. In 2008, Kamoi released the first collection of this craft tape!

And here we are, 20 years later, getting even more obsessed than ever with it! And today, you can get Washi Tape designed by me!

Book Update!

The inspiration is overflowing at the moment! I just spent a week in northern Queensland and had a swim in the Great Barrier Reef! Tropical fish are swimming in my head!

But I just finished some cooler climate creatures, The endangered spotted hand fish and the Anglerfish!

I am hoping that the Anglerfish is not too scary for a childrens book ha ha. I think he is kind cute in an ugly way!

How Bosa Art Co Started!

8th of September 2026 It started without a plan: I had a toddler and a baby. Thats a full time job in itself. I worked in a hospitality retail job a few days a week. It didn't always flow well with being a new mum. There was always challenges. At the end of the days, when dinner was done, kids where bathed and put to bed, I would usually crash on the couch and just scroll Instagram or watch TV. Until one night. . . I was scrolling Instagram and an artist in the UK popped up. It was late...

23rd of July, 2026 Happy Birthday to Me! As my birthday rolls around each year, I find myself reflecting less on how old I'm getting and more on how far I've come. Eight years ago, I had a box of greeting cards sitting in my house. That was it. No website. No customers. No stockists. No business plan. No grand vision for what would become Bosa Art Co. Just a box of cards and a hope that maybe, somehow, someone would want to buy them. Looking back now, it's funny to think that I was holding a...

Winter Solstice

21st of June, 2026 Slow Living on Holidays Hello, A few weeks ago, my little family packed our bags and flew north to Queensland. I needed some vitamin D, we realised we'd never taken a proper family holiday with the kids, and after eight years of pouring my heart into growing Bosa Art Co., I realised I had never truly stopped and actually celebrate how far I'd come. So I decided it was time. Time to rest.Time to explore.Time to tick a few things off my bucket list. Before I knew it, we were...
